Students at Stantonbury demonstrated exceptional commitment to vocabulary growth, placing us:
• 4th in the UK for total words encountered on Bedrock in October (1,158,000 words)
• 5th in the UK for Tier 2 academic words encountered (9,654 Tier 2 words)
What Are Tier 2 Words?
- High-Utility Academic Words: These are words students encounter across all subjects (English, Science, History, etc.) and are vital for understanding schoolwork.
- Essential for Comprehension: They bridge the gap between simple, everyday language and the complex language needed for academic success.
Examples of Tier 2 words: analyse, establish, interpret, compare, contrast, fortunate, required.
Mastering these words allows your child to understand texts at a higher level and express themselves more clearly and precisely, which ultimately supports the improvement of their assessment outcomes.
